Control Emotions, Control Outcomes

“It took years — and countless wrong decisions — to truly understand this.”
In every mental state, we have a natural reaction — what we call emotions.
Emotions themselves are not the problem.
The problem begins when emotions start making decisions for us.
Our success or failure largely depends on what decisions we make in difficult situations — or, more precisely, how well we understand and manage our emotions at those moments.
Whether it is happiness, grief, anger, fear, hatred, or love —
when we are deeply emotional, it becomes very difficult to recognize who is actually in control: us, or our emotions.
In most cases, it is the emotions.
And when emotions are making decisions, that is a dangerous place to be.
From my experience, decisions taken in such a state almost always turn out to be wrong — simply because we fail to separate ourselves from our emotions.
This principle applies everywhere:
in marriage and family,
in friendships and conflicts,
in education, profession, and business.
That is why, in the world of investing, fear and greed are considered the biggest enemies of investors.
Robert Kiyosaki writes in his famous book Rich Dad Poor Dad:
“The primary difference between a poor person and a rich person is how they manage fear.”
The issue is not fear itself.
The issue is allowing fear to take control of our decisions.
This is precisely why concepts like Emotional Intelligence emerged.
Emotional Intelligence — or Emotional Quotient (EQ) — simply means the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your emotions.
When you feel emotions taking over, delaying a decision is often the wisest decision.
Because a truly wise and successful person does not suppress emotions —
but never allows emotions to hold the authority to decide.
